Brooklyn-born Frederick W. Beers was a well-known surveyor, cartographer and publisher. Son of James Botsford Beers, he became a partner in his father’s company J. B. Beers & Co., which specialized in publishing maps and atlases. He went on to become the principal partner in F. W. Beers & Co., a New York map publisher specializing in county atlases. His company was responsible for mapping most New York counties, cities and sections of smaller towns during the 1870s, as well as those in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut and Vermont. Beers died in 1933 in Newtown, Connecticut, at the age of 94.
